Grade 10 Topic Ideas For Writing A Narrative Essay
Grade 10 Topic Ideas For Writing A Narrative EssayHow to write a narrative essay is an important topic for grade ten students, as it should be. In addition, it's often a skill that they'll need in college. If you're a teacher of English literature or English composition, here are some narrative essay topics for grade ten students to work on:'Family Tree' can be seen as a revision on 'The Life and Death of Man' by Virgil Thomson. This is an excellent essay for the grade. It contains the historical element and description of the narrative context.'Colony' is also set in a narrative perspective. Here, author John Steinbeck sees his narrator, Harry, as a hunter-gatherer who, as a result of the 'timber shortage' in his environment, 'depended upon an ingenious, but primitive and uncertain substitute' for wood: 'Many were the days that Harry may have wasted, had he not been kept safe by this property that the dark trees took up with a feeling of scorn.' This gives the reader a sense of the author's individual experience, and how he came to deal with his own problems and those of others in a certain situation. This is also a great essay topic for grade ten students.'Stolen Generations' takes the author's character from his life through the historical point at which the story begins, describing in detail the experiences of his people as they pass down their stories from generation to generation. The story starts when 'E.B. Jackson was taken from his father on board a schooner. Jackson was sold by his grandfather to a white man who sold him to the women who then raised him in the Washington state countryside and eventually bought him out, to keep him from returning to his family.'Narrative essays take us back in time to something we are all familiar with. In fact, many of our school curriculums describe a historical period which has been too short-lived, either because it occurred centuries ago or because it isn't so well-known. In these cases, such topics as the 'Americ an Revolution' or the 'American Civil War' would be appropriate for the grade. If your students' essays for this academic year have a focus on something such as 'Civil Rights,' or 'Youth Development,' these can also be good topics for the grade. Of course, for these kinds of topics, you want to be sure to present them in the most interesting and informative way possible.'Local Histories' are one way of developing the skill of writing. It's also a skill that can be used in college, should you wish to pursue that option. With that in mind, you can use the skill to help your students come up with their own captivating histories. Finally, there are grade five essays which could take this approach. When doing this, you need to be sure to communicate to the reader your perspective on the subject. You don't want to repeat yourself too much, because you can easily lose the reader.
